The Republic of Azerbaijan occupies a total area of 86,600 km2, and has the population of 10.0 million people.
The Republic of Azerbaijan is located in the eastern part of the South Caucasus, on the western shore of the Caspian Sea.

Azerbaijan borders with Iran (765 km) and Turkey (15 km) on the south, with Russia (390 km) on the north, with Georgia (480 km) on the north-west, and with Armenia (1007 km) on the west.
The largest cities include Baku, Sumgayit, Ganja, Nakhchivan, Shaki, Gabala, Lankaran, Zagatala, Guba, Mingachevir, Khachmaz, Shamakhi.
The area of the Caspian, the world`s largest lake, is 400,000 км². Its depth is 1025 m. For its size and hydrological peculiarities, the Caspian is called a sea.

Largest rivers: Kur (1515 km), Araz (1072 km).
